Second-year Business students are embarking on an exciting entrepreneurial journey, designing their own start-up company. Entrepreneurship is a major focus of the second-year curriculum, as students research, plan, register, and fund a simulated small business. Throughout the year, these aspiring entrepreneurs will become experts in various aspects of business, including accounting, marketing, human resources, technology, and trade, all while growing their simulated enterprise.
Earlier this month, the students sought the expertise of Fashion Designer Apphia Mpay from Common Threads to consult on the design and production of their product. The simulated company, Upward Fashion Collaborative or UpwardFC, will design and manufacture reusable bags that incorporate thrifted clothes and materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. These bags will be reversible, offering a practical fabric on one side and a more fashionable fabric (made with upcycled materials) on the other side. The students believe that by creating reusable bags that are both functional and stylish, customers will be inclined to use them for practical purposes as well as fashion accessories.
This innovative project not only fosters entrepreneurial skills but also promotes sustainability and environmental consciousness. The second-year Business students are poised to make a positive impact through their simulated start-up, showcasing their creativity, business sense, and commitment to sustainable practices. Thank you, Ms. Apphia Mpay for your time and support!
