Westbrook High School

Music royalty and jazz legend Wynton Marsalis was in the house yesterday! Marsalis visited Westbrook High School to listen to the jazz band rehearse and offer some coaching points. To put this in perspective for anyone who is not into jazz music, it would be analogous to Tom Brady stopping by football practice to offer a few pointers. Wynton shared stories and various pearls of wisdom from his experiences as a 14 year old trumpet prodigy in New Orleans through winning 9 Grammy Awards and even a Pulitzer Prize! Sue Proulx, Director of Music for Westbrook Schools, knowing that Mr. Marsalis was in the area to perform at Merrill Auditorium last night, reached out to his people on a whim to invite the star to the school... and he came! A huge shoutout to Ms. Proulx for giving our jazz students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and an experience they will never forget.
