Not long ago, Westbrook Schools Food Service Director Mary Emerson invited four state legislators to dine with us at the home of the Blazes, and they all accepted! Senators Jill Duson and Tim Nangle along with Representatives Sue Salisbury and Morgan Rielly came to WHS to mingle and dine like high school students. They actually sat down for a legit school lunch! It was amazing to see students and their local and area elected officials connecting about everything from state politics to halal lunch options. Representative Rielly, who is a proud WHS alum ('14) and co-founder of the school newspaper The Torch Tribune, even stepped behind the line to scoop and serve vegetables for students in line. A huge thank you to Ms. Emerson for making it happen! It was a two way street, bringing our reps into the fold for an up close and personal experience, and providing our students an opportunity to chop it up with real life political difference makers. In general, the visit was a landslide victory!
